1. Museum of Ho Chi Minh, Ho Chi Minh's Mausoleum, Ho Chi Minh Stilt House

The father of Vietnam - Ho Chi Minh, spend 60 years nonstop fighting for the independence for Vietnam people, it is known to be the greatest leader and proud of the Vietnamese people. Ho Chi Minh's Mausoleum is the place where Ho Chi Minh buried here, and also it is right in the middle of Ba Ting Square where Vietnam declared independence at here. Nice to take some pictures here as the Mausoleum is made of fine granites and limestone, the architecture design is very elegantly design.

At the west part of Ba Ting square, there is Ho Chi Minh Stilt House where display all the things that Ho Chi Minh used before and the way of his living to public.

2. Hoan Kiem Lake (Sword Return Lake)

To many people Hanoi is also named as Water City or Lake City, as according to government statistic there are about 70 plus different size lake in Hanoi. The most famous one is Hoan Kiem Lake, it is surrounded with a lot of trees and plants, in the middle of the lake there is an island and it is link by a red bridge. On the island there is a Chinese temple and exhibiting a giant turtle sample. Hoan Kiem Lake its name is from a legendary myth, which dated back in 15th century, where Le Qui Ly the first king of Vietnam found a precious sword with crafted 2 words "Shun Tian" (follow the sky will), and with this sword he able to fight and won the battle from Ming Dynasty colonial and establish its own country. After the success he brought this sword back to the lake, and suddenly there was a giant turtle came by and get the sword away, hence it is where the name of Hoan Kiem Lake came from.

3. Thang Long Water Puppet Theatre

This the only one puppet show on water in the world, the history can trace back to 800-1000 years ago, which it is only perform to emperors only, the normal civilians has no chance to enjoy this show, then slowly the shows lead out to normal citizens and it gets popular, reaches its peak proliferation in 18th century. The shows uses traditional Hanoi local dialects to narrate 17 ancient legendary myths and local people activities in ancient times. The Fairy Dance is the most eye catching one.

Buy your ticket is advance as there is only limited seats and it is always full.

4. One Pillar Pagoda

It was erected back in 1049 by Li Tai Chong emperor. The uniqueness of this pagoda as it the pagoda is supported by a pillar with diameter of 1.25 meter out above the middle of a lily pond. This One Pillar Pagoda is the present to Guan Yin Buddha as he presented a son to Li emperor as his successor. Every Aprith 8th in lunar calendar, many monks will come over to pray.

5. Van Mieu

It was build in 1070, main purpose of this temple to serve Confucious, also it is the first Emperor College in Vietnam. It is a very big temple with 5 gardens and everyday there are performance of traditional Vietnamese opera shows and water paper shows to tourists at free of charge.

6. Thien Nien Pagoda, Chua Tran Pagoda, Den Quan Thanh

Thien Nien Pagoda architecture design looks like a lotus, very unique design.

Chua Tran Pagoda is the most beautiful ancient building in west lake, it was developed in 6th century by Li Chao dynasty. Inside it display a lot of Buddhism gods for people to pray.

Den Quan Thanh is the biggest Taoist temple developed in Li Dynasty. A very authentic Chinese Taoist temple with the building design, decors, artifacts, and Taoist gods.

7. St Joseph Cathedral

The most famous church in Hanoi, it is build in 1886, 5 storey height, inside decorated with a lot of colorful glasses on the walls, many Cathedral stories and a long and wide hall. Sunday here will be the most crowded place.

8. Vietnam Museum of Ethnology

It is the most complete museum with 15000 artifacts from all around Vietnam. It is also a research center of Vietnamese cultures. You can see a lot of ancient buildings and cities model here, traditional ancient costumes, praying festival and practice, seeing the daily lifestyles back in 1000 years ago, travel back in time in the audio visual theatre.

9. History & Military Museum of Vietnam

If you are war and military equipment fans, you should not miss this place as it has many real stuff display here from very small real bullets to a real jet fighter or tanker.

10. Women's Museum

Here attracted millions of visitors because of its so unique theme - Museum about Vietnamese Women. You can have a throughout understanding of Vietnamese women lifestyle here, more over you can understand how women soldiers scarifies for Vietnam wars, and many more. Here it has 4 main exhibition theme, Vietnamese Mother, Women in History, Vietnam Women Association, The Minority of Vietnam. The best part is showing the 54 different cultural costume in Vietnam.

11. Old Quarter

A must visit places for truly understand the actual lifestyle of Hanoi people, enjoy the complicated streets that just like a maze, shopping for local handicrafts, authentic foods, seeing the specialty of these streets that has fixed selling products in each of the streets, every Friday night market happen here and many more. If possible hire a trishaw for 2-4 hours Old Quarter tour to cover it all at a glance, else you will need at least 2 days with your feet to cover each unique streets, landscapes, buildings, etc.
