Tokyo Japan Vacation Asakusa - Kannon Temple and Hotels Travel

Tokyo Japan vacation include Asakusa travel for its famous Kannon temple, famous authentic foods, shopping for Japanese Omiyage (souvenir) and some really cool hotels here. Asakusa gets its name from a famous temple called Sensoji as it is famous of most dense temple, oldest, and most people visited temple in Tokyo. It was the most famous places for lower class people gathering place during Edo period. The shopping street in front of Senshoji temple is one of the oldest shopping street in Japan, some shops are inherited for generation to generation some span across few hundred years old. There are three main iconic representation of Asakusa - "Rei Mon" lantern, five storey pagoda, and Nyingyo Yaki (Fried Doll cake). Below are couple of interesting spot that recommended here for you to spend your time to go around them all. Rei Mon

1.  Big Red Lantern with "Rei Mon" wording on it.

Since 1960, at the very front entrance of Senshoji temple there hanged a very huge big red lantern weighted 3 quarter tones with 4 meter height in size. This "Rei Mon" lantern represent the thunder and wind god who guard the main entrance of Shenshoji. Must take photo spot here.

2. Asakusa Kannon TempleAsakusa Kannon Temple Tokyo

Asakusa Kannon Temple also known as Shensoji, it is the oldest and most crowded Buddhism temple in Tokyo, and it was built in year 628 AD. There are about 40 millions crowd visited Asakusa Kannon Temple every year, especially during January 1st to 3rd day, it has about 1 millions people come here for praying for new year better luck and health. Senshoji serves Kannon God in the main hall, where every weekend there are many Japanese and tourists come from far and near to pray Kannon for family safety and healthy life.

5 storey representing all 5 natural element: Soil, Water, Fire, Wind, and Emptiness, it is also the place to keep Buddha's Selilo.

4. The Oldest Theme Park in Tokyo - Asakusa Hanayasashiki

It was built in 1853, it has 20 over different rides and games for kids and adults, one of the famous is the oldest roller coaster in Japan which built in 1953. Another famous one is the Bee Tower where you can oversee the whole Asakusa area in this flying swing.

5. Riding on Traditional Man-powered Trishaw for Asakusa city touring

In front of "Rei Mon" open space, there are always people in traditional costume who are the driver of the trishaw that offering their services to take you around Asakusa for sight seeing.

Trishaw charges:

1 people: 10 minutes with 1 customer, it cost roughly 1500 yen, if 2 customers it cost 6300 yen for 30 minutes, and 12600 yen for 60 minutes ride.

Asakusa Hotels

1. Upscale - Asakusa View Hotel

It is the nearest hotel to Asakusa Kannon Temple and has very authentic setup like tatami room, japanese garden and the hotel layout too. But it is a little bit high in price, roughly you need to pay about USD$130-$150.

2. Just for a night stay - Asakusa Capsule Hotel

3000 yen per stay!! Interesting setup of accommodation in Japan, a coffin size capsule is all the place you going to spend your night. Best price and comfortable for single backpacker that on budget travel.

The hotel is beside the exit of Asakusa station.

Access Information:

Japan Raiway (JR) Train: From Ikeburo Station take Yamanote line train to Ueno Station (16 minutes with 160 yen), change to Tokyo Metro subway at Ueno Metro station and stop at Asakusa station. Approximately 5 minutes and 160 yen. Total 21 minutes and 320 yen.

Tokyo Metro Subway: From Shibuya station take Tokyo Metro subway on Ginza line to Asakua. Approximately 31 minutes travel time with fare of 230 yen.
